About the Author and Illustrator

John Muir was born in Scotland in 1838, and made many expeditions to Alaska and the Sierra Nevadas in California throughout his life. After his adventure with Stickeen in 1880, Muir continued to travel the world and educate people about Yosemite and the natural world. Muir died in 1914.
Carl Dennis Buell is an illustrator and naturalist whose work has been featured in museums and zoos throughout the country, as well as in numerous national magazines. He has been clawed, pecked, or bitten by most of the species of wildlife featured in this book.
