Rosanna Xia celebrates the paperback release of her book published by Heyday, California Against the Sea, in conversation with MacKenzie Elmer at the Book Catapult in San Diego.

Rosanna Xia is the author of California Against the Sea, and an environmental reporter for the Los Angeles Times, where she specializes in stories about the coast and ocean. She was a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2020 for explanatory reporting, and her work has been anthologized in the  Best American Science and Nature Writing series.

MacKenzie Elmer is an environment and energy reporter for Voice of San Diego. She graduated from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography’s Climate Science and Policy program. There, she published an original report revealing the effects of lithium mining on Indigenous Chilean populations fueled by California’s battery storage demand and 100 percent clean energy mandate.
