Peter Schrag is a journalist, a scholar of Californian politics and political history, and the author of numerous books. His publications include When Europe Was a Prison Camp: Father and Son Memoirs, 1940-41 (Indiana University Press, 2015), Final Test: The Battle for Adequacy in America’s Schools (The New Press, 2005) and Paradise Lost: California’s Experience, America’s Future (The New Press, 1998), which was a New York Timesnotable book. Schrag served as a columnist and page editor at the Sacramento Bee for nineteen years, and was a visiting scholar at UC Berkeley’s Institute of Governmental Studies from 2011 to 2013.
