Bakersfield Sound Bus Tour with Robert E. Price

Robert E. Price will be leading a one-day tour of historic spots connected to Bakersfield’s musical past on March 10. Price, the author of The Bakersfield Sound: How a Generation of Displaced Okies Revolutionized American Music, is hosting the five-hour bus tour in conjunction with Bakersfield College’s Levan Institute for Lifelong Learning. Stops will include the places where legendary honky-tonks and recording studios of the era once stood, as well as the Arvin Federal Labor Camp, Merle Haggard’s childhood boxcar home, the Crystal Palace and more.

The Saturday afternoon tour starts at 1 p.m. and concludes at 6 p.m. Tuition is $78 and includes a copy of Price’s book. Drinks and snacks are also included. Fewer than 10 spots remain.
