Feast of Words: A Literary Potluck with Andrew Lam and Chris Chung

Andrew Lam, author of Perfume Dreams and East Eats West, will share from his collection of newly published short stories, Birds of Paradise Lost (Red Hen Press, 2013). With San Francisco as a backdrop Lam deals with the struggles and triumphs of Vietnamese newcomers to California and with issues of trauma and recovery. Culinary guest Chris Chung anchors the evening’s potluck. As always, guests can bring a dish, take part in a writing exercise and share the work they have created for a chance to win literary and culinary prizes.

Andrew LamAndrew Lam is an editor and cofounder of New America Media, an association of over two thousand ethnic media outlets in America. His essays have appeared in dozens of newspapers and magazines across the country, and his short stories are anthologized widely. Followed by a film crew back to his homeland, Vietnam, he was featured in the documentary My Journey Home, which aired nationwide on PBS in 2004. His book Perfume Dreams: Reflections on the Vietnamese Diaspora won a PEN American Beyond Margins award in 2006. Lam currently lives in San Francisco.
