The El Cerrito Trail Trekkers put on their annual bash and each year Richard Schwartz presents an outdoor talk on Native American life before and after contact in the El Cerrito vicinity and beyond. Learn about the many shellmounds, life in the hills, the natural world, the use of annual burning, and many more windows into the area’s first people. To find hillside meeting place, start at the southernmost trailhead on Regency Court, the one that has a trailhead sign. Follow the signs or flags to the meeting place with amazing bay views and a chance to travel back to a world worth knowing.

Richard SchwartzRichard Schwartz is a historian and the author of Eccentrics, Heroes, and Cutthroats of Old Berkeley; Earthquake Exodus, 1906; Berkeley 1900; and The Circle of Stones. An outdoor enthusiast and animal lover, he worked on a Pennsylvania Dutch farm before heading west to find higher mountains.
