Walking Tour of the Peralta Park Neighborhood

Richard will lead participants on a whirlwind tour of the dream development of immigrant actor M. B. Curtis. Curtis took an out-of-the-way piece of property on a hill in North Berkeley and transformed it into a development for the ages. He named streets after his wife (Albina) and the stage character that catapulted him to overnight fame and riches (Posen) as well as many others. The whole town gathered to watch the excitement of the building of the hotel and no one was said to refuse an invitation to one of Curtis’ lavish parties. See where his dreams materialized and grew and disappeared and how his presence still affects us today.

Meet at the front of 1316 Albina St., Berkeley, at 1:00 p.m. Call Builder’s Book Source for Reservations. 510-845-6874. Tour tickets $20 or $10 with a purchase of book.
