Wild L.A. Book Launch Event with Charles Hood

Join Charles Hood (A Californian’s Guide to the Birds among Us, A Californian’s Guide to the Mammals among Us) along with Lila Higgins, Gregory B. Pauly, and Jason G. Goldman for the launch of their new book, Wild LA: Explore the Amazing Nature In and Around Los Angeles, copublished by Timber Press and NHM.

NHM is proud to present the book launch of Wild L.A. Join us for an evening panel discussion with the authors, touching on the research and stories behind the book, followed by a Q&A. Special museum collections highlighting elements of the book will be on display between 6:00–7:00 p.m. Books will be available for purchase.

SCHEDULE

6 pm – Explore the Nature Gardens, Nature Lab, and Museum Collections
Explore the Nature Gardens, participate in Garden Tours, see collection displays and meet and greet live animals in the Nature Lab.

7 pm – Panel Discussion: Meet the authors of Wild L.A.
Meet the authors and hear wild stories about nature in L.A. plus learn more about their inspiration behind the book.

8 pm – Book Signing and Exploration
Purchase your own copy of Wild L.A. and have it signed by the authors then further explore the Nature Lab and collections.

Charles Hood has studied birds and natural history from the Amazon to Tibet, and he has seen more than five thousand species of birds in the wild. A widely published poet, he has received numerous fellowships and writing awards, and his most recent artist-in-residence positions were with the National Science Foundation in Antarctica and with Playa Arts in Oregon. He has also been a visiting professor in England, Mexico, and Papua New Guinea. Hood is currently a research fellow with the Center for Art and Environment at the Nevada Museum of Art as well as a teacher of writing and photography at Antelope Valley College in the Mojave Desert.
